Privacy Policy
Last updated: 22 May 2026
OrthoQs ("we", "the app") helps you practice orthopaedic in-training
exam questions. This policy explains what we collect and why. We aim to
collect as little as possible.
What we collect
- Anonymous account. On first launch we create a random,
anonymous account identifier (via Firebase Authentication). It contains no
personal information and isn't linked to your Apple ID.
- Profile you choose to add. An optional display name and
university/program. These are only shared on the leaderboard if you opt in
(see below).
- University email (optional). If you choose to verify
your student status, we use your university email solely to confirm its
domain matches your school and grant a "verified" badge. It is handled by
Firebase Authentication.
- Practice activity. Which questions you answer, whether
each was correct, when you answered, and the topic — used to power your
stats, the adaptive scheduler, and (in aggregate) to improve the question
bank. This is tied to your anonymous account, not your identity.
- Subscription status. Whether you have an active
"OrthoQs Pro" subscription. Purchases are processed by Apple; we never
receive your payment card details.
Leaderboards and visibility
You are anonymous by default and do not appear on public
leaderboards. If you switch to "show my name", your display name, university,
and correct-answer counts become visible to other users on the rankings.
You can switch back at any time.
How we use it
- To run the app — track progress, compute stats, and schedule questions.
- To show leaderboards (only with your opt-in).
- To verify student status when you provide a university email.
- To improve and expand the question bank, using aggregated practice data.
We do not sell your data or use it for third-party advertising.
Service providers
- Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore, Hosting,
Cloud Functions) stores app data on our behalf.
- Apple processes in-app subscription purchases.
Data retention and deletion
You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Account →
Delete Account. This removes your profile/account record. Practice
activity may be retained in anonymized, aggregated form to maintain
leaderboards and improve the question bank; it is no longer linked to a
profile after deletion.
Security
Data is transmitted over encrypted connections. Questions cached on your
device are encrypted at rest.
Children
OrthoQs is intended for medical trainees and is not directed to children
under 13.
Changes
We may update this policy; we'll revise the date above when we do.
